Rep. Gabrielle Giffords Resigns From Congress

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) formally resigned from congress today. The congresswoman was critically wounded by a gunshot to the head on Jan. 8, 2011. She was not expected to survive, and in fact there were even false reports of her death in the early hours of the tragedy. But she not only survived, she has recovered enough to walk and talk on her own. Gabby Giffords did not read her own resignation letter — that honor fell to Gabby’s longtime friend in the House Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL). Listen to the words of the letter. Gabby Giffords is one strong and courageous woman. I wish her all the best as she continues her recovery. So long, Gabby, and thank you for your service!
