Most Americans now support legalizing marijuana: “For the first time, a majority of Americans support the legalization of marijuana, according to a new poll from Gallup.
“The poll shows 58 percent now support legalizing recreational marijuana — an unprecedented jump of 10 points from just last year.” — Washington Post 10/22/13
“Gallup released new polling data today that shows an overwhelming majority of Americans want marijuana to be legalized. According to their survey, 58% of Americans support legalizing marijuana, while only 39% are opposed. This is up significantly from the last time Gallup polled the question in 2012, when only 48% of Americans were in favor and 50% were opposed. For historical perspective, the first time they surveyed this question in 1969 a paltry 12% of Americans were in favor of legalization.” — NORML 10/22/13
“Pollsters attributed the rapid rise in support for legalization to changing attitudes among self-identified Independent voters. In 2012, 50 percent of Independents endorsed legalization, compared to 62 percent in 2013. Support among Democratic (65 percent) and Republican (35 percent) voters was little changed from 2012 to 2013.
“Respondents in every age category except for those age 65 and over expressed majority support for legalization.” — NORML 10/24/13
Uruguay is set to become the first country to legalize marijuana: “Uruguay will soon be the first nation in the world to completely legalize the use, sale, and cultivation of (strikingly affordable) cannabis.”
“In Uruguay, it has long been legal to smoke cannabis, but growing, buying, selling or carrying it can result in prison time. However, the Uruguayan House passed a cannabis legalization bill in late July and contingent on a senate vote set for November, Uruguay is readying to become the first country in the world to completely legalize the government-controlled sale, cultivation, and consumption of cannabis.” — AlterNet 10/27/13
TEA PARTY VS THE GOP
Establishment Republicans are trying to neutralize the Tea Party: “It took a tea-party insurrection that disabled the federal government and wrecked the Republican brand, but after months of handwringing, establishment Republicans are preparing to attack ultraconservative ideologues across red America.
“From Alabama to Alaska, the center-right, business-oriented wing of the Republican Party is gearing up for a series of skirmishes that it hopes can prevent the 2014 midterm election from turning into another missed opportunity. This will not be a coordinated operation. It will be messy, ugly, and prone to backfiring. And if the comeback succeeds, it will be in fits and starts, most likely culminating in the selection of a presidential nominee in 2016.” — National Journal 10/24/13
SEN. TED CRUZ – DOMINIONIST
Ted Cruz has been anointed by a Dominionist pastor: In a sermon last year at an Irving, Texas, megachurch that helped elect Ted Cruz to the United States Senate, Cruz’ father Rafael Cruz indicated that his son was among the evangelical Christians who are anointed as “kings” to take control of all sectors of society, an agenda commonly referred to as the “Seven Mountains” mandate, and “bring the spoils of war to the priests”, thus helping to bring about a prophesied “great transfer of wealth”, from the “wicked” to righteous gentile believers. link to video of Rafael Cruz describing the “great transfer of wealth” and the role of anointed “kings” in various sectors of society, including government, who are to “bring the spoils of war to the priests”. — AlterNet 10/17/13
“When Ted Cruz heads down to join other Religious Right leaders at David Lane’s Renewal Project conference in South Carolina, he will do so as conservatism’s newly anointed messiah. At that point he will have replaced Sarah Palin … “
“The problem for America is that Cruz is both slicker and smarter than Sarah Palin. And like Sarah Palin, his messianic bona fides are in good order. It was in the news recently that Ted Cruz’s father, Rafael, anointed his son on August 26, 2012 at New Beginnings megachurch in Irving, Texas.”
“According to New Beginnings’ dominionist pastor, Larry Huch, Ted Cruz got elected to the senate because God is about to begin his “rule and reign” and there will be a big “end-time transfer of wealth.” — PoliticusUSA 10/30/13
