Oregon puts Legalization initiative on the 2014 ballot: “Oregon voters will decide this November in favor of a statewide initiative to regulate the commercial production and retail sale of marijuana.

Republicans in the House of Representatives vote to sueObama & Boehner - So Sue Me President Obama: “The House voted mostly along party lines Wednesday to authorize suing President Barack Obama, which Republicans called a principled move to rein in an increasingly lawless president and Democrats and the White House dismissed as a taxpayer-financed political stunt.

“The resolution, adopted 225-201, would authorize a lawsuit against the president over his implementation of the Affordable Care Act, with five Republicans joining all the Democrats in opposition … “

Detroit Water Shutoff Protest July 2014Detroit wins major victory in water battle: “The City of Detroit has been turning off water service for residents and businesses with severely delinquent bills.”

Jobless March

Senate Republicans vote against bringing jobs back to America: “Senate Republicans blocked a bill today that would potentially bring millions of jobs back to the United States by refusing to end tax breaks for companies who outsource jobs.

” … Millions of jobs have been outsourced over the past decade in part because companies can get a tax break on their expenses related to sending jobs overseas. Church Tax Exemption

Evangelical churches face IRS investigation over electioneering: “[T]he Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) won a lawsuit and a settlement with the Internal Revenue Service. The lawsuit demanded that the IRS start cracking down on churches and religious groups who blatantly violate the rules of their 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status by “electioneering from the pulpit.” The IRS agreed to start doing its due diligence and enforcing the law against mainly Christian evangelical churches that “have been blatantly and deliberately flaunting electioneering restrictions” with impunity because they believe they are above, and immune from, the nation’s laws; because they are evangelical Christians.”PoliticusUSA 7/31/14
