Lauren Bacall med close left shoulder 40sActress Lauren Bacall passed away yesterday at the age of 89 in her hometown of New York City. The word “Legend” is tossed around these days until the point that it’s become meaningless. But Bacall was a bona fide Hollywood LEGEND who then went on to become a bona fide Broadway LEGEND, winning two Tony Awards for Best Actress.

I have been a lifelong fan of Bacall’s and I always loved her and Bogie together. I am a native New Yorker — as she was — and I patterned myself after her when I was young. She was “Betty” — a Jewish girl from the Bronx who became a model and then an actress, known for her beauty, class and sass. Her voice was unique, as was her trademark facial expression that became known famously as “The Look”.

I could say so much about Bacall in this blog post, but I wouldLauren Bacall med close straight ahead 40s rather let the obituaries speak about her numerous screen and stage credits. Let’s enjoy the photos and the short video clip, and remember her life and legend.

I’m so sorry to see Lauren Bacall leave this earth, but I am thankful knowing that she is now reunited with her Bogie, sharing a drink, a cigarette, and trading quips with him — He was also a native New Yorker and they were a perfect match. Betty Bacall, you will be missed! May you Rest In Peace, and may your strong spirit soar!

About At Random

I am (Ms.) Jay White Feather, a lifelong New York City resident, born and raised on the mean streets of Manhattan back in the day. I am of Native American heritage -- a native New Yorker who grew up back when it meant something to be a New Yorker. And to me, it still does mean something.
